Copaifera reticulata oil is a rare, wondrous oil that comes from the oleoresin of the Copaiba tree. It is harvested by drilling a pipe into the side of the tree trunk, much like collecting maple syrup. The essential oil is then produced by steam distilling the copal (oleoresin).
Copaiba essential oil has some of the highest beta-caryophyllene levels in the world. It contains up to 50% beta-caryophyllene, which is much higher than its anti-inflammatory friends Clove and Helichrysum which are raved about for their 5-12% beta-caryophyllene content.
Beta-caryophyllene has been studied a great deal for its ability to modify the inflammatory process. It has been approved by the FDA as the first dietary cannabinoid.
Copaiba essential oil can be used for:
- Muscle aches
- Insect bites
- Sore throat
- Urinary disorders
- Skin problems
- Stomach ulcers
- Poor circulation
- Herpes simplex
It can be diffused, applied topically or ingested depending on the ailment being eased.
I have used it personally for headache relief, with astonishing results. My friend recently used it after leg surgery, with no need for the other narcotics she was prescribed. Its truly an amazing essential oil.
